Build a Google Spreadsheet with the History Mapper template. Copy the template to your own Google Drive account by clicking the "Make a Copy" button. History Mapper will never be able to access your Google Drive.
Get the Spreadsheet TemplateYou have to fill in both the ‘key’ tab and the ‘data’ tab. Only the red columns have to be filled in, all the rest is optional.
In the 'Key' tab fill in the information of the individuals within your network. Each person gets its own row, with an unique numerical ID that you assign.
In the 'Data' tab fill in the information of your records (eg letter), each communication gets its own row. The 'From ID' and the 'To ID' refer to the person ID in the 'Key' tab. First add a person to the 'Key' tab, then fill in the ID number in the ‘data’ tab.
Note: Don't change the column headers, don't remove any columns, and don't leave any blank rows in your spreadsheet.
Under the File menu, select “Publish to the Web.”
In the next window, click the blue "publish" button. When asked, "Are you sure…?" click OK.
Close the 'Publish to the web' window.
Copy the URL for your spreadsheet from the browser's address bar. It should look something like this:
