We have been working quite some time now with the Microsoft Surface. The functionality keeps improving and the interface is even more intuitive than before. Different (geographical) datasets are available for our Surface applications. Of course traditional datasets, like roads, aerial photographs, cadastral parcels, height models, etc.
We also integrated social media which have a geographical component, like Twitter messages and Panoramia photo’s. It is very easy and intuitive to view the tweets and photos, move it around, rotate it and scale it.
It works really nice and is a fun way to see what’s happening around you. There is only one issue: the content of the social media… For example in 90% of the Tweets the message is something like “Fuck you bro”, “It is raining” or “I am hungry”. A filter is definitely a necessity to do actually something useful with social media.
